When the Déesse (French for goddess) was presented at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, l’auto-journal ran the headline “The bomb has exploded!” And what a bomb it was! By the end of the show, over 80,000 sales contracts had been signed! In just under twenty years of production, 1,455,746 examples of this model were sold. With its unusual design, hydropneumatic suspension, high-pressure brakes, power steering, semi-automatic transmission, spare wheel located in the engine compartment, and many other details, the DS was probably the greatest sensation in automotive engineering of all time. For the 1966 model year, the DS Pallas was added to the “standard” DS. Technically identical, the Pallas featured a more luxurious interior with thicker seats and carpets, and on the outside, considerably more chrome trim. For the 1967 model year, all models received a differently designed front end with twin headlights behind a single glass, one pair of which is connected to the steering via cables – the famous cornering lights of the DS! In the late 1960s and early 1970s, a DS Pallas was the most comfortable car ever and was considered the benchmark in comfort by Mercedes and Jaguar. To this day, we know of no car that “irons out” road surface bumps better than a DS.
This DS 20 Pallas with a semi-automatic transmission features original factory air conditioning. The car was registered on January 21, 1972, just north of Avignon. On March 30, 1999, the vehicle passed into its second hands, and in 2005, a DS enthusiast in the Netherlands bought it, who had the paintwork, which had become somewhat dull by then, renewed. In 2023, the car was sold to a Citroën collector in Stuttgart. At that time, the car had a total mileage of 67,658 kilometers. The gentleman from Stuttgart had taken the very well-preserved and original car to the DS factory in Brensbach, where work worth approximately €35,000 was carried out. The engine, with a mileage of 67,658 km, was resealed, and the entire hydraulic, steering, brake, and electrical systems were overhauled. The tobacco-colored leather of the interior, the headliner, and the carpet were also replaced. The trunk was also carpeted. Since then, the car has only covered 1,571 kilometers. The owner has just had an original Citroën Traction Avant Cabriolet restored and is therefore parting with this beautiful DS Pallas with its original and functioning air conditioning.
