The Volvo 780 Coupé was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1985 as the successor to the 262 Coupé. Nuccio Bertone is responsible for the design, which is as understated as it is elegant, relatively timeless and yet typical of Volvo. The luxurious coupé, which was specially developed for the American market, was only offered in Europe in Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy and Spain. The car was developed as a dignified, luxurious glider and was lavishly equipped as standard. The price was therefore on a par with a Mercedes 500 SEC and because the car could not keep up with its performance, it was decided to only offer the car in the countries mentioned and overseas. In 1988, the model received a completely new multi-link rear axle, which made the handling noticeably “lighter”. Only 8,518 of these exquisite and expensive vehicles were manufactured until production ended in 1990. Although Volvo did not offer the cars in Germany or Scandinavia, there were still buyers in these countries who appreciated a high-quality, long-distance-capable, well-equipped coupe and then imported the vehicles themselves. Since these cars are always fully equipped (e.g. with air conditioning, electric sunroof, electric seat adjustment, hi-fi audio system with equalizer, etc.), it is difficult to find a model in which everything, or at least almost everything, works. Nevertheless, these opulent coupes are something of an insider tip today; you just have to find a well-preserved and well-maintained model first.
This Volvo 780 was registered in Sweden on October 1, 1987. In 2017, the car was imported to Germany by “Autojäger” with a mileage of 83,333 kilometers and sold to an enthusiast from Berlin. According to the information available to us, the coupe was in first ownership until 2016. The available documents relating to Swedish general inspections and the entries in the logbook are not complete, but do not contradict this information. Since the car has been in Berlin, i.e. since 2017, it has only been driven 5,342 kilometres and it has only been serviced by us. Since then, €20,185.87 has been invested in repairs and maintenance work (e.g. exhaust, cleaning the intake tract, new kick-down Bowden cable, brakes, electrics, seat adjustment, chassis bushings front and rear, new radiator, new air conditioning compressor, headlight cleaning, tie rods, fuel gauge, new headliner), as well as in cavity and underbody preservation. The current mileage is 88,680 kilometres and the general inspection is valid until October 2025. Our customer values the car very much and has always parked it under a tarpaulin in his garage since 2017 and only used it for trips into the surrounding area when the weather is good. Health reasons have now prompted him to let us have this luxurious and very well-preserved Volvo Coupé for sale.
Our Économie offer for €16,800 refers to the tested and fully roadworthy vehicle with a newly renewed roof lining and a general inspection valid until October 2025. The standard offer for €17,900 also includes an inspection, an oil change and a new general inspection. The Suprême offer for €20,150 also includes the removal of two small rust spots, the repair of which, however, requires some effort in terms of dismantling and reassembly. We can gladly send you a detailed list of the three offers by email.
