I can hardly believe it. On February 2, 2006, I presented the then-new Citroën C6, alongside its predecessors, together with the car dealership in Friedrichshain at the former Meilenwerk in Berlin (renamed Classic Remise Berlin in 2011). My company, Atelier Automobile GmbH, was founded just two years ago, and now we’ve already celebrated our twentieth anniversary. In this respect, the Citroën C6 plays a special role for us, and we’re delighted that we can now offer this C6 with a three-liter gasoline engine, now that it’s maturing into a classic. Roland Kayser, company founder and managing director.

With the C6, Citroën officially tied in with its automotive history for the first time. Previously, the company only focused on its new and current vehicles, leaving the preservation of its history largely to the classic car scene itself. With the C6, that changed, and it was often presented alongside a DS or a CX in print and TV advertisements. Dealers were now also able to present their new cars alongside the brand’s historic models. Previously, the company had prohibited this. While the C6 wasn’t a retro-designed car like the Mini or Fiat 500 at the time, it did incorporate styling elements from the DS and CX. The front end didn’t feature any design elements from the classics, but it was designed to be just as impressive as the DS, and the cornering lights were also present again. The doors were frameless like the DS; the rear was styled after the XM, with the concave rear window like the CX. The suspension was, of course, hydropneumatic, and all models had lane assist, bi-xenon cornering lights, an electronic parking brake, multi-zone air conditioning, eight airbags, and an active hood that provides special protection for pedestrians. The C6 was also the first car to come standard with a head-up display. The vehicle was initially offered with 4- and 6-cylinder engines from 170 to 211 hp, and in 2009, a diesel engine with an increased power output of 241 hp was added. By 2012, 23,384 units had been built. The model wasn’t as successful as hoped, but it heralded a certain turnaround for Citroën, which, from 2014 onwards, culminated in the new DS brand for exquisitely equipped vehicles from the PSA or, today, the Stellantis group. Incidentally, it was the C6 that enjoyed the desired demand immediately after its discontinuation. But by then it was too late, and prices for truly good examples with mileage of less than 10,000 km were already approaching their original price.

This C6, with the gasoline engine, which was quite rare compared to the diesel, was first registered on May 21, 2008, in La Grande-Motte near Montpellier. On June 1, 2016, a Citroën owner from Hanover purchased the car. The vehicle, which had been in its first owner until then, was finally transported to Hanover and “naturalized” in Germany with a full DEKRA inspection on October 13, 2016. At that time, the mileage was 125,698 kilometers. Since then, the car has been regularly serviced by a Citroën workshop. The timing belt was replaced at approximately 140,000 km, all six ignition coils in 2022, and the starter motor in 2023. The current mileage is 168,796. The Citroën owner is a good customer and has entrusted us with marketing his car. True Citroën owners refer to the C6 as the last classic Citroën – Dernière Citroën Classique.
