Almost everyone knows the ID and DS models from Citroën because their design is simple, unusual and great. Some people don’t know the official sales names, but they do know one of the many nicknames such as doctor’s car, shark car, goddess, Pallas, Maybug car, Fantomas car, gangster Citroën, or whatever other names are used for these models. There is hardly a car that has so many names and this fact alone shows how well-known and unusual these cars are. When the DS (Déesse is French for goddess) was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, over 80,000 signed sales contracts could be shown after the exhibition! In just under twenty years of production, 1,455,746 units of this model were sold. With its unusual design, hydropneumatic suspension, high-pressure brakes, power steering, semi-automatic transmission and many other details, the DS was probably the biggest sensation in automobile construction. In 1957, the idea came up to offer a simpler and cheaper variant and this model was introduced as the ID. Today, many people find it difficult to distinguish a DS from an ID because the cars are very similar. The easiest way to tell them apart is by the way the foot brake is operated because only a DS has a large brake button, the brake mushroom, instead of a brake pedal. With this brake mushroom, the brake is controlled by the pressure with which you press the button and not, as is usually the case, by the distance you press the brake pedal. For reasons of habit, many people therefore prefer an ID because of the conventional brake pedal. Basically, a DS is more classy and conservative and an ID is more trendy and avant-garde in design. An ID from the 1967 model year is considered by many today to be the optimal D model. It has the old front section, the more reliable green hydraulic system, the robust five-bearing engine and largely dispenses with technical refinements such as the semi-automatic gearbox or an electronic injection system.
This ID has a contemporary DX engine from a DS 21 in combination with a five-speed gearbox. The car has been in our service since 2018. It was the first car of a customer from Thuringia who has since brought his Citroën vintage cars (C4 from 1929, 11 BN from 1953, DS from 1967) to us for maintenance. Although the car was in very good condition overall, we have carried out work worth €18,412 over the years. Among other things, we removed the engine and resealed it, replaced the starter, exhaust, drive cuffs, brake discs, pressure accumulator, pressure regulator, heating valve, height corrector, hydraulic pump, clutch, engine mounts, a front wheel hub, headlights and front indicators. Since 2018, the car has been driven 8,369 kilometers and is therefore fully operational. The tires could currently be replaced and, if you really want the car to look nice, the light gray part of the dashboard could be repainted. Our customer loves the car, but he is currently building a hotel and since the construction costs have exploded, he had to recalculate and therefore asked us if we could help him market the ID. An everyday ID in a beautiful color combination of gris kandahar with red velour and the original unpainted fiberglass roof, which glitters wonderfully bizarrely when exposed to sunlight.
We have examined all cars thoroughly and from this examination we always make three different offers. Our Économie offer for €29,500 refers to the tested and roadworthy vehicle as described above. The standard offer for €33,800 also includes new Michelin tires and a new general inspection, and the Supreme offer for €36,000 also includes a further optical refurbishment of the engine compartment, refurbished rear door panels and cavity preservation. We can send you a detailed list of the three offers by email.
