In 1972, Renault presented the R5 as a compact small car, originally designed to be below the R 4. No fewer than 5,544,695 units of the first series were built by 1984! This made the R5 even more successful than the R4, and it was preferred by many customers because of its low maintenance costs, compact dimensions and cute design. When it was presented in 1972, the vehicle was ultra-modern and provided the perfect model for the VW Polo and Golf models. The R5 was also the first mass-produced vehicle with plastic bumpers, thus heralding the beginning of the end of the chrome age in automobile construction. The second series followed in 1984, often referred to as the 5 Super, of which a further 3,464,217 units were built by 1996. A total of 9,008,912 vehicles were built from both series together. The small cars with their good suspension comfort and excellent roadholding are great fun to drive. The balanced proportions and the clear, completely straightforward design of the second series in particular seem pleasantly harmonious from today’s perspective and, in contrast to today’s often aggressive design, almost calming. It’s a shame that you only see these cars very rarely anymore, because the vast majority of these cars, which were designed as utility vehicles, have disappeared or are in a pitiful state.
This Renault 5 GL is almost unimaginable, because it has only done 1,118 kilometers and that is verifiable! The car was first registered on May 23, 1989 in Saldarini on Lake Como in Italy. Even then, it was registered for an elderly gentleman who obviously hardly ever drove the car and basically kept it in a garage when it was new. The elderly gentleman eventually died and his heirs also did not take care of the small car for years, which continued to slumber in the garage. In March 2024, a collector of excellently preserved French classic cars, who is himself over 70, heard about the car and couldn’t resist. He had all the damage from standing repaired (e.g. new brakes, new tires, a few new rubber parts) and gave the car a revival treatment, because the Renault was actually intended for his wife. Now the couple is buying a smaller house as a retirement home, so they have to reduce their collection and have turned to us to get this little miracle into good hands. We are very happy to be able to offer this actually unimaginable small car. Unimaginable – inimaginable!
The Économie offer for €18,800 refers to the tested and roadworthy vehicle with an H report and a general inspection valid until March 2026, but still without German papers. The standard offer for €20,300 also includes an inspection, an oil change, the installation of rear seat belts and a new general inspection. The Suprême offer for €22,200 also includes paint polishing followed by ceramic sealing, as well as cavity and underbody preservation with wax.
E-fuels as an alternative fuel for climate-friendly use in classic cars.
