After the extremely successful 240/260 series, Volvo introduced the successors in 1982, which were then launched as the 740/760. The 760 model again had the so-called PRV V6 engine, a joint development by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, under the hood. The successor model 960, built from 1990 to ’98, was then powered by a newly developed inline six-cylinder. In the 960, the last Volvo model with rear-wheel drive, this engine was still installed longitudinally in the classic way, while from 1998 onwards it was installed transversely in the S80 with front-wheel drive. The 960 looks like the proverbial castle and the velvety smooth running inline six-cylinder fits the character of this car perfectly. Volvo only produces the 960 Executive sedans with a wheelbase around 132 mm longer to individual order. The first series of these cars, which were suitable as chauffeur limousines, were delivered without the third side window in the C-pillar, which underlined the classy appearance of the vehicles. From 1994 onwards, a third side window was installed again, which somewhat contradicted the private character in the rear. There were three levels of Executive vehicles with different equipment, with Level III even having a small refrigerator built into the middle of the back seat. These Executive versions are extremely rare today, hardly known and hard to find in good condition. Only 20 examples of the first version of the Executive, i.e. before the facelift of the Volvo 960 model, were made in two months of production.

This Volvo 960 Executive Royal Level I was first registered on April 27, 1993 in Worben in Switzerland and sold to Holland on March 15, 2011. The operating instructions, original Royal brochure and service booklet are in German and all service intervals are entered in the service booklet. In 2019, we transported the sedan to Berlin on our own wheels and sold it to a good customer in Iserlohn in the same year. Before that, we had, among other things, replaced the engine’s timing belt. At that time, the mileage was 204,948 kilometers. The car was in very good, largely original condition at that time, but our customer in Iserlohn only has vehicles in almost perfect condition in his collection, i.e. a real condition of at least 1-, and so he had the car perfected afterwards. All add-on parts and all windows were removed and the car was completely repainted to a high standard. The trunk lid and the bonnet were even repainted on the inside. The bumpers and exterior mirrors were also repainted. During the subsequent assembly, the bumpers were fitted with new chrome strips, the side ram protection strips, the outside door handles and the radiator grille were replaced. Not that the old parts were bad, but they just weren’t new. But that wasn’t enough, the interior was also subjected to an almost manic treatment. All door panels and the steering wheel were covered with new leather. The A and B pillars were also reupholstered and even the pictograms of the horn symbols on the steering wheel were reproduced, glued on and the buttons were then sealed with a satin finish. In terms of technology, the brakes were completely renewed, the leveling of the rear axle repaired, the cardan shaft re-bearing and the air conditioning compressor renewed. Since then, the noble Volvo has only been driven 1,515 kilometers and the current mileage is 209,722. All work on the car was carried out to the highest standard and we assume that there is hardly a better Volvo 960 – and certainly not an Executive Royal from the first series, as only 20 of these were built. The car is equipped with ABS, automatic transmission, airbag, automatic climate control, audio system, electrically adjustable seats and cruise control, among other things, and all of this works. A Volvo with a very noble appearance and still suitable as a chauffeur limousine or diplomatic vehicle. Long and good, or in Swedish – Långt och Gott…
