When Peugeot took over Citroën in 1974, development of the CX, the successor to the legendary DS, had just been completed and the car was ready for market launch. As the successor to the DS, the car initially struggled, even though it stood out from the crowd in much the same way as the DS. However, when annual production exceeded 100,000 units in 1975, it was clear that the car was accepted by the market as a worthy successor to the DS. The abbreviation CX refers to the drag coefficient in French, and since this car was one of the first to be developed primarily in a wind tunnel, Citroën immediately used the abbreviation as the model name. The design was by Robert Opron and, like the DS twenty years earlier, set standards. A total of 1,170,645 units were produced until 1991. During this time, various modifications were made, including a facelift in 1985, in which the stainless steel bumpers were replaced with plastic ones, and the so-called magnifying speedometer, featuring an illuminated cylinder rotating behind a cover printed with lines, was replaced with conventional round instruments. Today, the early versions with stainless steel bumpers and magnifying speedometer are far more sought after.

This CX Pallas with a 2.4-liter carbureted engine and manual four-speed transmission was first registered in France on August 11, 1978. Unfortunately, we know nothing about its history in France. On December 14, 2007, the sedan was registered to a gentleman in Lage near Bielefeld. In 2016, the car came to Berlin and was registered to the current owner on December 29, 2016, who has let us sell the car. This gentleman didn’t actually want to sell the CX, but couldn’t resist a near-perfect CX Prestige, so he decided to sell the car after all. The exterior of the car was repainted in 2016 (photos are available). The Citroën’s body is in very good condition, as is the interior. After the car arrived, we had the engine compartment blasted with dry ice and were then able to see for ourselves the excellent condition of the front body structure. A very good, fairly early CX Pallas in a color combination that perfectly underlines the elegance of the lines – Ligne Élégante.
