After establishing itself as a respected and highly regarded car manufacturer in the 1950s and 60s, Volvo introduced the completely new 140 series in 1966 as the successor to the 120/130 series (known as the Amazon). Initially, only the four-door 144 sedan was available, but the two-door 142 sedan and the five-door 145 Torslanda station wagon followed in 1967. The Torslanda designation indicates that these cars were produced at the new plant in Torslanda. The middle “4” represents the four-cylinder engine, and the last digit indicates the number of doors. From 1968, the prestigious six-cylinder sedan with a different front end and the corresponding designation 164 was added to the lineup. A total of 1,205,111 Volvo 142, 144, and 145 models were built. In 1974, the successor, the 240, was introduced. Although the 240 is considered a separate series, it was in reality a heavily revised 140, as the passenger compartment, including all windows and doors, was essentially carried over from the 140. Since the 240 series was produced until 1993, it’s fair to say that this model was manufactured for over 27 years. In 1976, the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) selected the Volvo 240 as a reference vehicle for setting future safety standards. In 1991, the American Insurance Institute (AHI) named the 240 the safest vehicle on the American market. Thus, the Volvo 144 marked the beginning of a highly successful 27-year career for a model family, and its popularity continues in the classic car scene, where these cars are currently experiencing a renaissance.

This Volvo 145 Torslanda was delivered on July 5, 1968, to a gentleman in Kvarnsveden, just over 200 kilometers north of Stockholm. The warranty booklet is almost in mint condition. Evidently, the car was driven very little from the start, as the oldest Swedish MOT report from 1992 shows a mileage of 61,675 kilometers. The most recent Swedish MOT report from 1997 shows 69,729 kilometers. In 2005, the car was sold to Germany and underbody and cavity protection was carried out using TimeMAX. At that time, the car was in completely original condition, as confirmed by the TimeMAX report on the treatment. In 2011, the car was sold through a dealer to a German sculptor who owns several classic cars and occasionally used this Volvo station wagon as a transport vehicle. This sculptor bought another vehicle from us and asked us to market the Volvo 145 for him. When the car arrived, we were quite surprised, as the entire vehicle appears completely authentic and very well preserved. Even the interior looks like that of a very well-maintained and barely used car. The owner couldn’t tell us whether the paintwork was original from the factory, so we measured the paint thickness, which was consistently around 100 micrometers. These values indicate a factory paint job, but upon closer inspection, it’s clear that at least below the side trim strip, it has been repainted. Apparently, it’s a very thin coat and without any visible color difference. We then had the engine compartment dry-ice blasted and can confirm that it, too, is in very good original condition. With this car, you have the opportunity to acquire a Volvo 145 Torslanda from the first year of production, currently with 75,544 kilometers on the odometer, in largely original condition. The rearview mirrors on the front fenders were, by the way, exactly as they came from the factory, as they are also shown in the owner’s manual. The automotive legend – Swedish: Billegende – can be continued by you.
