In 1965, Peugeot presented the 204 series, a lower middle class vehicle with a concept that was to set standards worldwide. The compact pontoon body with four doors offered space that had previously only been seen in much larger vehicles. This was possible thanks to the transversely mounted engine at the front and the associated front-wheel drive. This also enabled a very simple but all the more efficient chassis geometry, which in turn set standards in terms of comfort and handling. In Germany, the model series competed with an Opel Kadett, a Ford 12m and, of course, a VW Beetle. In 1969, the 304 was presented in addition to the 204, which offered a larger trunk thanks to a longer rear body overhang. The styling of the 204, however, remained unmatched, especially in the elegant and extremely pleasant convertible, which was available from 1967 to 1970. The sedans and station wagons were offered until 1976 and only after 1,604,296 vehicles were produced did they stop. The cute two-seater convertibles, of which only 18,181 were built, have one of the largest trunks of any two-seater. Even most of today’s four-seater convertibles cannot keep up with this trunk. So nothing stands in the way of your vacation for two and if the trunk is not big enough, there is even more storage space behind the seats. This 204 convertible was passed on from the first owner to his son in June 1990. At that time, a new vehicle registration document was issued and the old original document was unfortunately confiscated. This son had completely dismantled the vehicle in 1994 and started to rebuild it, even though it had no rust problems thanks to good care. As sometimes happens, the son lost interest in the work over time and sold the Peugeot to someone who completed the work with great love. He could always compare his work with another 204 convertible that he used in everyday life. The car was completed with a replacement engine from Peugeot, which already has the newer three-phase alternator. In 2012, the convertible was first registered to his wife and a little later to himself. In 2022, the Peugeot was sold to someone who was restoring another 204 convertible and only used this car until his car was finished in 2023. He then sold it to the owner of a workshop for vintage Peugeot cars, whom we have known since our company was founded. This gentleman gave us the two-seater to sell. This workshop owner has known the car for decades and says that he has not seen such a good 204 convertible for many, many years. The car gives the impression of being a one-year-old car.
