Almost everyone knows the ID and DS models from Citroën, because their design is simply extraordinary and magnificent. Some people don’t know the official sales names, but they do know one of the many nicknames, such as “doctor’s car,” “shark car,” “goddess,” “Pallas,” “Maybug car,” “Fantomas car,” “gangster Citroën,” or whatever other names these models are called. There is hardly a car that has so many names, and this fact alone underlines how well-known and extraordinary these cars are. When the DS (Déesse is French for goddess) was presented at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, over 80,000 signed sales contracts were signed after the show! In just under twenty years of production, 1,455,746 units of this model were sold. With its unusual design, hydropneumatic suspension, high-pressure brakes, power steering, semi-automatic transmission, and many other details, the DS was probably the greatest sensation in automotive engineering. In 1957, the idea was born to offer a simpler and more affordable version, and this model was introduced as the ID, which was available in three trim levels. Today, many people find it difficult to distinguish a DS from an ID, as the cars are very similar. The easiest way to tell them apart is by the way the foot brake is operated, as only a DS has a large brake button, the brake lever, instead of a brake pedal. With this brake lever, the brake is controlled by the pressure applied to the button, rather than, as is usually the case, by the travel of the brake pedal. For reasons of habit, many people therefore prefer an ID because of its conventional brake pedal. Generally, a DS is more sophisticated and conservative in design, while an ID is more trendy and avant-garde. An ID has fewer decorative elements, and therefore the design of the body is more evident than in a highly equipped DS. However, the dashboard of a DS from 1961 to 1968 is generally considered the most attractive.
This vehicle was restored from the ground up for a customer in 2015 and rebuilt according to his wishes. His dream car was an ID with a front end from 1967, a dashboard from a DS from 1967, the exterior color Rouge Massena AC 423, a roof color Blanc Albâtre AC 096, and cream-colored leather. Furthermore, the B and C pillar trims, which are usually made of grooved aluminum or brushed stainless steel, were to be used on a government vehicle. These cars had smooth trims painted in the body color. This is how everything was done, and the dashboard, like a DS Cabriolet, was painted in the body color. The leather seats from a DS Pallas were installed and dyed cream white. The carpet was chosen in a matching red, and the front seat belts were light beige. Green tinted glass with an additional green wedge in the upper section of the windshield was also installed. Great attention to detail was paid to the restoration, and we think the photos speak for themselves. Incidentally, the 78 hp ID 19 engine was replaced with a 100 hp DS 21 engine, and a 5-speed transmission was installed. While the car doesn’t quite match its delivery specifications, you have the opportunity to own a meticulously restored vehicle at a relatively affordable price. We subject each vehicle to a systematic inspection – from the bodywork to the engine and electrical system. Based on this, we prepare three offers. You decide which offer suits you best.
Economy – €24,750
Fully operational and functional vehicle with a H-certificate and a general inspection valid until May 2027.
Standard – €27,900
Additionally, a major service with oil change, recolored front seats, two three-point automatic rear seat belts, and cavity and underbody wax protection.
Supreme – €39,800
Additionally, the installation of a reconditioned engine with a new clutch and a 500 km run-in service. The engine no longer develops its full power and, after checking the compression (8.5 to 9.25 bar), shows completely even wear and, at 0.5 liters per 1,000 km, no excessive oil consumption. Therefore, engine failure is not expected in the foreseeable future. Therefore, the installation of a reconditioned engine can still be waited. Nevertheless, if you value full performance, we would like to make you an offer.
We would be happy to send you the details of the three proposed offers. Or you can simply call us and we will explain everything to you personally.
