When Peugeot acquired Citroën in 1974, the development of the CX, the successor to the legendary DS, had just been completed, and the car was ready for market launch. As the DS’s successor, the CX, despite standing out from the crowd much like its predecessor, initially faced challenges. However, when annual production exceeded 100,000 units in 1975, it became clear that the car had been accepted by the market as a worthy successor to the DS. In recent years, we have observed a dramatic surge in interest, and we are certain that these cars will soon be among the most sought-after classic cars. The abbreviation CX stands for Cd, or drag coefficient, in French, and since this car was one of the first to be extensively developed in a wind tunnel, Citroën adopted the abbreviation as its model designation. The design, by Robert Opron, set new standards, much like the DS. A total of 1,170,645 units were produced until 1991, during which time the CX underwent several facelifts. The most significant visual change was made in 1985, when the vehicles received plastic bumpers instead of the previously used stainless steel ones. Today, models from before 1985, i.e., with the stainless steel bumpers, are far more desirable.

This CX GTI with air conditioning is largely in its original condition. The car was delivered to Switzerland in 1984 and remained there until 2016. At that time, the odometer read 53,810 kilometers, and the CX-Base, with a guarantee of this mileage, sold the vehicle to a Citroën enthusiast in Berlin. We still have photos from that time showing the rear seat still covered with the original factory protective film. The CX-Base carried out a thorough mechanical overhaul at the time and installed a new fuel tank. Therefore, apart from the tailgate, the vehicle still has its original paint. Unfortunately, there are also some original, thin scratches on the roof, which the Swiss owner caused himself by shoveling snow off it. Since 2016, the clutch, fuel injectors, alternator, ignition coil, spark plug wires, and other small parts have been replaced. We’ve known the car since 2020 and sold it to a customer in Brandenburg. He has now purchased a Melkus sports car, a GDR-era model of which only 101 were ever produced. The CX can’t compete with this rarity, so he’s entrusted it to us for sale. The car’s body, interior, and mechanical components are in incredibly good original condition. Even the alloy wheels look like they belong on a nearly new car. Since 2020, the gentleman from Brandenburg has only driven the car 1,974 kilometers, and the current mileage is 62,555 kilometers. If you’re looking for an exceptionally well-preserved CX with air conditioning, you should definitely take a look at this original Swiss model.
