The Peugeot 406 followed the 405 in 1995. It was offered with petrol engines ranging from 1.6 liters with 88 hp to a 3.0-liter V6 with 207 hp. It also offered diesel engines ranging from 1.9 liters with 75 hp to 2.2 liters with 133 hp, which set the standard for diesel engines at the time. All body versions, i.e. the four-door notchback sedan, the station wagon, and the sleek coupe, were largely designed by Pininfarina. The 406 continued the tradition of the already legendary robust Peugeots. It also set the standard for comfort in the upper mid-size class. Our Managing Director, Dipl.-Ing. Roland Kayser, worked in development at Ford in Cologne until 2003 and headed the so-called Drive Team, which constantly tested the prototypes against the competition. The Peugeot 406 was considered the benchmark for comfort, and the Ford Mondeo CD 132, introduced in 2000, had to be measured against it. Neither a Mercedes nor a Citroën could compete with the Peugeot in terms of comfort. Today, a well-preserved 406 offers the opportunity to drive a robust and comfortable classic car at an affordable price.

We received a call about this 406 from the son of the original owner, who had been monitoring our website for a long time. The original owner, born in 1939, bought this 406 as a demonstration car from the Peugeot dealer Fenner in Weilheim, Upper Bavaria, in February 1998. He bought the new Peugeot as part of his retirement and has cherished it since day one. According to him, he never drove the car in rain or snow. So, the car “has never seen salt.” Now, at 85, the original owner has retired and wants his beloved Peugeot to find a good home. So he asked his son to contact us, and we picked up the car in Weilheim with our tow truck. When we loaded the car, the elderly gentleman didn’t want to be there because the farewell was too much for him. The car’s maintenance booklet is exemplary, and every service due is fully documented. The timing belt was replaced at 119,478 km, and the last service was performed at 124,940 km. Apart from a few minor scratches on the front bumper and the right rear wheel arch, as judging the vehicle’s size was becoming increasingly difficult for the gentleman, the car appears to be a one-year-old. The car doesn’t have air conditioning, but you can now install portable air conditioners that run on the 12V cigarette lighter socket. Certainly not as good as an integrated air conditioner, but ideal for this vehicle.
