1974 was a difficult year for Citroën; the DS was on the verge of being replaced by the CX, and it was clear to everyone that any successor to the DS—regardless of the specific car—would face an uphill battle. Yet that was far from the only problem Citroën had to confront. In 1974, Citroën was acquired by its rival Peugeot; not only did Peugeot have its own executive sedan, the 604, nearing production readiness, but it was also evident that Peugeot intended to halt all of Citroën’s Wankel-engine projects. Citroën had originally planned to position the CX below the DS model range while giving the DS another refresh. Additionally, the CX was slated to be available at a later date with an optional three-rotor Wankel engine. Alongside the M35 (with a single-rotor engine) and the GS Birotor (with a twin-rotor engine)—both of which are virtually unknown today—the CX Trirotor would have been the third Citroën to feature a Wankel engine. The new CX was officially unveiled to the press for the first time on August 28, 1974. Valéry Giscard d’Estaing had become the new President of France the previous May; when the new Peugeot 604 was introduced in March 1975 and Giscard d’Estaing favored it as his official state car—preferring its more luxurious rear cabin—it seemed as though Citroën’s world was falling apart. After recovering somewhat from the shock, work began on the CX Prestige. The Prestige featured a wheelbase extended by 250 mm and a significantly more lavishly appointed rear cabin. The CX Prestige was unveiled in February 1976; while the spaciousness of the rear cabin drew enthusiastic praise—after all, no other production vehicle in the world offered more rear legroom, not even the Mercedes 600—critics took issue with the low roofline. Citroën responded quickly once again, unveiling the revised Prestige in 1977; it featured a slightly raised suspension setting and a significantly higher roofline, increasing the car’s overall height by 150 mm. With these changes—and already equipped with Citroën’s famous patented hydropneumatic suspension system—the CX Prestige firmly established itself as a chauffeur-driven limousine offering more rear-seat spaciousness than any other car on the global market. Citroën’s response to the Peugeot 604 and government requirements was swift, comprehensive, and successful. From 1984, the CX GTI and CX Prestige were available with a turbocharger, delivering 168 hp. This engine gave the limousine performance capabilities on par with the Mercedes 500 SE or BMW 745i. In late 1985, the turbo variants were fitted with an intercooler and renamed the GTI Turbo 2 and Prestige Turbo 2. Official power ratings remained unchanged, although the Turbo 2 models definitely delivered slightly more actual power.

We acquired this CX 25 Prestige Turbo 2—featuring a manual transmission and velour upholstery—from a customer who had purchased the car shortly before buying a DS from us. He no longer has a use for the CX, as owning two classic cars proved to be too much for him, and we now have the opportunity to sell it. The vehicle was first registered in France on November 28, 1986. It changed hands within France on December 7, 1990, and remained there until September 17, 2014, when it was imported to Germany by a CX enthusiast from the Lübeck area. Before our customer purchased the vehicle in Lübeck, it underwent a new technical inspection and received certification as a historic vehicle (*H-Gutachten*) on May 11, 2020. However, the car has never been registered in Germany; it will therefore only receive German registration documents at the moment it is registered. All necessary formalities have already been completed. The vehicle has covered 139,616 kilometers. A wonderful CX in the rather rare top-tier “Prestige Turbo 2” trim, equipped with a catalytic converter.

We subject every vehicle to a systematic inspection—covering everything from the bodywork and engine to the electrical system. Based on this, we prepare three package options. You decide which offer suits you best.

Économie – €17,500 (€15,500 until July 8, 2026)
Inspected, roadworthy vehicle; does not include the mandatory technical inspection (TÜV) or the “H-plate” (historic vehicle) certification.

Standard – €24,500 (€22,500 until July 8, 2026)
