Renault introduced the Twingo small car in 1993, scoring a major hit in the process. It was a time when Renault was restructuring its entire product lineup, a move signaled by the adoption of new names for its new models. The cars were no longer designated R4, R5, R9, R11, R21, or R25, but rather Twingo, Mégane, Safrane, Espace, and so on. The Twingo surprised everyone with its highly versatile interior. The rear seat could be slid forward or backward across three locking positions, and the angle of the rear seatbacks was adjustable; furthermore, by removing the front headrests and reclining the front seatbacks fully, one could create a sleeping surface over two meters long. If the full trunk capacity wasn’t needed, sliding the rear seat to its rearmost position created a vehicle with generous rear legroom. This spatial concept, among other factors, drove the rapid and enduring success of the first-generation Twingo, which remained in production until 2007. More than half a million Twingos were sold in Germany alone. Over the years, various special editions were introduced, as well as a new engine with a timing belt in mid-1996. Buyers could also opt for a large folding sunroof or an electric glass sliding sunroof. In recent years, early Twingos have been enjoying something of a rediscovery, and it is not yet too late to find a well-preserved example. However, most of these cars are now worn out and have significant deferred maintenance issues. The top-of-the-line model was the “Initiale,” which came equipped with every available feature, including air conditioning and leather upholstery.

This Renault Twingo 1.2 16V Initiale is essentially fully equipped, featuring power steering, electric windows, central locking, an electric glass sunroof, air conditioning, leather seats, four airbags, alloy wheels, and much more. The car was first registered on August 17, 2004, to a woman born in 1955 in Bochum and remained in her possession until May 9, 2025. On November 6, 2025, the Twingo was deregistered by its second owner and sold to a gentleman in Berlin; he has not registered the vehicle to date, though he may have driven it using his red dealer/transfer plates. He simply could not resist this Twingo—which boasts full equipment and a mileage of only 41,769 km—and had intended it for his wife. However, since she absolutely refuses to drive a manual transmission, he has entrusted the car to us for sale, albeit with a heavy heart.
