After Volvo had established itself during the 1950s and 60s as a respectable automobile manufacturer with an excellent reputation, the entirely new 140 series—serving as the successor to the 120 series (known as the Amazon)—was introduced in 1966. The entire model range proved to be such a resounding success that its successor, the 240 (introduced in 1974), retained the exterior appearance of the passenger cabin, even though it was fundamentally a new design. The dimensions of the Volvo 140 and 240 models are also more or less identical. Consequently, many people refer to the 240 as merely a facelift; however, this is inaccurate, as the entire load-bearing structure of the 240 differs from that of the 140. The A- and B-pillars, door sills, firewall, and numerous other components were all redesigned. All these modifications were implemented in the 240 to ensure it remained at the very forefront of crash safety performance. Among other achievements, the Volvo 240 was one of the first vehicles to offer a high level of protection in the event of a side impact. These measures proved so effective that the Volvo 240 was awarded two accolades for its safety in the United States. In 1976, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) selected the Volvo 240 as a reference vehicle for establishing future safety standards. In 1991—17 years after its market launch—the 240 was designated by the U.S. insurance industry as the safest vehicle on the American market. The model series remained in production for 19 years—outliving the 740, which had originally been intended as its successor, by a full year! This model definitively cemented Volvo’s reputation as the preeminent authority on automotive safety. Since the car’s design bore a strong resemblance to that of its predecessor, the Volvo 140, this fundamental design concept remained in production for a span of 27 years—and, even by 1993, had yet to become obsolete. Although Volvo had already introduced the successor model—the 740—to its lineup as early as 1983, the 240’s fan base remained fiercely loyal to the model. The car simply represented a harmonious overall concept that suffered from no real weaknesses and, above all, scored points for its sheer robustness. Added to this was Volvo’s exemplary safety technology, which won over the world. The Volvo 240 undoubtedly ranks among the great automotive legends, though finding well-preserved sedans is becoming increasingly difficult.

This Volvo 240 GL—equipped with a three-way catalytic converter, a B230F engine, and a five-speed manual transmission—was first registered on March 22, 1989, in Sätra, southwest of Stockholm. Since all inspection reports—both Swedish and German (TÜV)—are present, the entire mileage of 53,389 kilometers can be fully and seamlessly documented! These reports also reveal that a change of ownership occurred within Sweden in 2012, at a mileage of 43,837 kilometers. In 2023, the car was exported to Germany, and in 2025, it was sold to a retired DEKRA employee. This former DEKRA employee is the fourth owner of the Volvo, and we have known him for a good two years. He has now purchased a smaller home for himself and his wife—essentially downsizing for their retirement years. However, he is only able to garage three vehicles at his new residence and asked us if we would be interested in marketing this unique Volvo. Since we are familiar with his cars and know that their condition could hardly be any better, we immediately agreed to his request and collected the car from the Siegerland region. As expected, this proved to be an excellent decision, for this is truly an incredible Volvo 240—*en otrolig Volvo*. The car presents itself like a meticulously maintained one-year-old vehicle; the only minor flaws are some small cracks in the upper dashboard trim. There is a special repair cover available for this issue; if this bothers you, we would be happy to install this cover—and while we are at it, install a new windshield as well—since the windshield must be removed anyway to carry out the dashboard repair. The car is equipped with a genuine Volvo aftermarket accessory: a system that allows you to pre-heat the engine coolant in your garage using a standard household outlet during cold weather. The corresponding power inlet is located beneath the front bumper on the right side, right where the blue decal is placed. While we are familiar with this feature from cars originating in Scandinavia, what we have never seen before is an extension of this system featuring a portable heater unit; this unit can be placed in the front passenger footwell and plugged into a dedicated outlet located there. This heater unit is still in its original packaging and has evidently never been used, as it looks brand new. You may never actually need to use this heater, but it is guaranteed to be an absolute showstopper at any classic car meet.

We subject every vehicle to a systematic inspection—covering everything from the bodywork and engine to the electrical system. Based on this assessment, we prepare three distinct service proposals. You decide which proposal best suits your needs.
