When Peugeot acquired Citroën in 1974, the development of the CX—intended as the successor to the legendary DS—had just been completed, and the car was ready for market launch. Although it stood out from the crowd just as the DS had, the car initially struggled to gain a foothold as the DS’s successor. However, when annual production exceeded 100,000 units as early as 1975, it became clear that the market had accepted the car as a worthy successor to the DS. In recent years, we have observed a surge in interest, and we are confident that these cars will soon rank among highly sought-after classic cars. In French, the abbreviation “CX” refers to the drag coefficient; since this was one of the first cars to be developed extensively in a wind tunnel, Citroën adopted the term as the model name. The design was created by Robert Opron and, much like that of the DS, set new standards. A total of 1,170,645 units were produced up to 1991, undergoing several facelifts along the way. The most significant visual change occurred in 1985, when the previously standard stainless steel bumpers were replaced with plastic ones. Today, pre-1985 models—those featuring the stainless steel bumpers—are far more sought-after.

This CX GTI, equipped with air conditioning, was first registered in Grenoble, France, on January 15, 1982. A copy of the original *carte grise* (registration document) and the original Citroën *Certificat de Conformité* (Certificate of Conformity) have been preserved. The vehicle was sold to the Netherlands in 2012 and moved to Germany a year later, where it was registered in 2014 to a gentleman in Hermsdorf, Thuringia. In 2023, he sold the vehicle to a gentleman in Berlin via “CX-Basis” in Graben-Neudorf. The previous owner drove the vehicle occasionally as a classic car for three years before purchasing a Citroën XM V6 from us and consigning the CX GTI to us for sale. The vehicle remains largely in its original condition and retains its factory paintwork. There are no issues with corrosion, nor are there any significant scratches or dents. The hood shows a few stone chips, which serve to confirm the originality of the paint. The car is equipped with air conditioning, electric windows all around, and leather seats. Before listing the vehicle for sale, we replaced the headlights and had the air conditioning system serviced. In 1981, Citroën introduced an anaphoresis treatment for the bodyshells prior to painting, which significantly improved corrosion protection. In 1983, the front end was slightly smoothed out, and the engine displacement was increased to 2.5 liters. The metallic paint color is known as *sable doré* (golden sand).
